David Lisman was the Director of the University of Denver’s Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning from 1999-2005. He has a bachelors and a masters degree in philosophy from Baylor University and a doctorate in educational policy studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison

Previously, a philosophy professor and Director of the Community Involvement Center at the Community College of Aurora, Dr. Lisman has been a community college leader in the service-learning movement. He has served on four national projects, two with the American Association of Community Colleges and two with the Campus Compact National Center for Community Colleges.

His books include: Beyond the Tower: Concepts and Models for Service-Learning in Philosophy Service-Learning, American Association of Higher Education, 2000;Toward a Civil Society: Civic Literacy and Service-Learning, Bergin & Garvey, 1998; The Curricular Integration of Ethics: Theory and Practice, Praeger, 1996; Promoting Community Renewal Through Civic Literacy and Service-Learning, Co-editor, a Jossey Bass New Directions volume, 1996. He has published many articles on the issues of ethics and service learning

Dr. Lisman has given over eighty local, regional, and national keynote addresses and presentations on topics pertaining to ethics, civic responsibility, and service-learning.

Since coming to the University of Denver in 1999, Dr. Lisman has raised over two million dollars in grants to support his Center.
