Global Political Economy - 4 credits
What will the face of the globe look like in the next 10, 25, 50 years? What nations will be strong or weak economically? Which countries will dominate the political order? In this course students examine the interface of economics and politics at the global level. Three concepts for analysis are explored: Realist, Liberal, and Historical Structuralist. What strategies do nation-states employ to advance their global economic interests? How do nation-states and international economic organizations interact? An important focus of this course is on learning how global economic forces—movement of goods, labor, capital—alter potential interests, alliances, and positions on policy questions such as, tariffs, willingness to trade, human rights, and other social issues.
