Undergraduate International Students

Applicants are considered “international” if they will hold a visa wile enrolled at University College, University of Denver. This means the following ARE NOT considered international students: U.S. citizens living abroad, U.S. permanent residents (green-card holders), documented refugees or asylees. The following ARE considered international students: non-U.S. citizens wishing to hold a visa (F-1, J-1, H-1 or any others) while enrolled at University College, University of Denver. This includes visa-holders who have or are attending U.S. schools.

International candidates must comply with all requirements (International Student Checklist) set forth for domestic applicants and supplement their application with the following additional requirements:

  • Official transcripts from each institution where two or more quarter hours were completed
    International applicants must submit official transcripts printed in the official language of instruction of their institution. If the official language of instruction is not English, official translated copies should also be submitted by a qualified educational translation service.
  • Documentation of English language proficiency
    Before enrolling in classes, students whose native language is not English must fulfill one of the following:
    • TOEFL: Students must present a minimum score of 570 paper-based, 230 computer-based, or 88 Internet-based. The test must have been taken within the past two years.
    • IELTS: Students must present a minimum score of 6.5. Test must have been taken within the past two years.
    • Complete Level 5 at DU’s English Language Center (ELC).
    • At least one year of credit (30 semester hours/45 quarter hours) from an approved college or university where the universal language of instruction is English.
  • Photocopy of Diploma/Degree Certificate
    Applicants with foreign credentials must also submit official proof of the degree earned with appropriate official translations.
  • Letter of financial verification (if seeking F-1 visa)
    Any candidate who wishes to obtain an F-1 visa must provide a letter of financial verification. The document must be an original bank letter and/or an offer of scholarship that confirms adequate funds to cover tuition and expenses for one year. Account statements are not adequate verification. For the 2009-2010 academic year, financial verification forms must reference a specific amount in excess of US $29,313. The letter should be original (not a fax or photocopy) and have the signature of an officer of the financial institution.
  • Copy of current government identification and a copy of current passport (if seeking F-1 Visa)
    Please provide a copy of the photograph and legal name page of your passport. This can be uploaded and attached to your online application. If you currently do not have a passport, you will need to make arrangements to obtain a passport before an I-20 can be issued by the University of Denver. If you are submitting the online application prior to obtaining a passport, please email a copy of your passport to Ucolba@du.edu once you have received it.
  • Supplemental information form
    All applicants who are not U.S. Citizens must submit the Supplemental Information Form.The SEVIS Supplement Form can be submitted at the same time as your online application. Please have the document accessible when completing the online application so it can be uploaded and attached prior to submitting the application. If you are submitting the online application before completing the SEVIS form, please email the document to Ucolba@du.edu when you are ready to submit it.

All credentials submitted become property of the University of Denver and cannot be copied or returned to the student or any person(s).
