OLLI TOO gives members (those enrolled in OLLI classes) the chance to participate in “extra curricular” programs. As a complement to the academic focus, OLLI TOO expands learning opportunities in a fun, relaxed environment.
The Music of Antonin Dvorak
Bohemian composer Antonin Dvorak (1841-1904) gave us an enormous body of work, encompassing many forms and ensemble types. Common to these works are irresistible melodies, innovative harmonies, and pleasing tone colors. In this class, Professor Emeritus David Kaslow with the Lamont School of Music/Denver University will explore Dvorak’s life and at musical Romanticism. Afterward, we shall discuss — and enjoy — this master’s vocal, chamber, and orchestral offerings.

Using History for Fiction
Well known Evergreen author, Francine Mathews, a former CIA agent, will discuss how she uses history in her fictional novels. The author of nine books in which Jane Austin acts as a detective, as well as The Alibi Club, which has the German occupation of France as its location, and a new book A Flaw in the Blood, about Queen Victoria and her hemophiliac husband. Francine will provide a lively morning's talk.

A Musical Springtime in Colorado
Together, music, springtime, and Colorado yield an exciting synergy. Professor Emeritus David Kaslow with the Lamont School of Music/Denver University will guide us as we shall look at music-in-general (to set the stage); hear how composers of various periods approached this most wonderful of seasons; and learn how composers approached the subject of love—romantic love, love of nature, and love of children. Finally, we shall enjoy the offerings of several eminent Colorado musicians.

Inside Stories Tour: Denver Art Museum
Take a guided tour through a building that could not have been constructed just a few years ago. The new Hamilton Building, designed by Daniel Libeskind, soars from the ground, unfolding like a huge titanium flower. The unique structure pushed the boundaries of architecture, engineering, and design. Explore the building and hear untold stories about the installation and conservation of art in this extraordinary new space. You may also want to combine this class with your own tour of the Museum’s Inspiring Impressionism exhibit will which be on display. This exhibit will feature works of Monet, Degas, Renoir, Raphael, El Greco, Rubens, and others (the tour is not part of this class – you must make your own arrangements to purchase a ticket for this exhibit).
