About the Enrichment Program

I have had many people tell me what an important role Enrichment Program courses play in their lives—people who just want to get back in the classroom, to get away from it all, and to be able to think deep thoughts. Over the five years that the program has been in existence, we have learned what makes it popular: hand-picked scholars, classes that often include a special experience or event, discerning participants engaged in serious discussions, and no grades, exams, or admission requirements.

During the past year, nearly 2,000 adults of all ages came to this beautiful campus to pursue topics of special interest, develop new skills, or discuss current issues. Participants and professors alike remark at how refreshing it is to explore provocative subjects in the company of like-minded peers. Thank you to everyone who joins us in creating these unforgettable experiences.

This season, we present you with over 40 courses, events, and one-of-a-kind opportunities. Our Current Issues section is again packed with topics of global interest. Writing, art, and photography courses help people discover talents they never knew they had. Cultural Connections courses provide intimate, often exhilarating experiences in music, culture, dance, film, theater, educational travel, and more.

Note especially the courses on Russia, China, the economy, the geopolitics of oil, and women in politics. Back by popular demand in the “Dusting Off the Classics” series is the course on Tolstoy’s War and Peace (32 enrolled last term with a wait-list) and a new classics course on The Iliad.  A course on the violin concerto is linked to Joshua Bell’s performance of the Mendelssohn concerto with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. You can revisit the cultural controversies of the 1960s in a course that links to the Newman Center’s performance of the David Dorfman Dance Company.  And many more.

Wow … with all of these choices, you may need to take two or three courses! Discover the special joy that comes your way when you make learning a part of your life.
