The master’s degree specialty and graduate certificate in Knowledge Based Organizations can be earned entirely online or evenings on campus.
The world is filled with information. The most successful organizations transform the information into useful knowledge. The knowledge based organization utilizes the knowledge of the most important resource, people, in the creation and transmission of knowledge with an understanding of its role in economic, technological, and cultural change. Areas such as competitive intelligence, intellectual property, and managing a knowledge-based workforce must be discussed when planning for the appropriate use and implementation of knowledge. Ethical considerations when gathering or using knowledge and information are also discussed.
The Knowledge Based Organizations program will prepare students to:
• Describe the differences between information and knowledge
• Provide examples of knowledge based organization and the processes, tools, and management structures used in operations
• Identify knowledge uses and gathering methodologies that aligns with the ethics, mission, vision and values of the organization
• Compare and contrast tools and ideas for making data and information understandable to workers of differing education backgrounds
• Discuss best practices in managing knowledge workers
