Comparing Organizational Systems - 4 credits
This course examines the purpose and roles of organizations and differentiates between public, private and governmental organizations. The impact that individuals, groups and structure have on behavior within an organization is investigated. The organization as an open system with inter-organization relationships is addressed. Examples of different types of organizations are presented and various dimensions of differences and similarities are identified. Students will identify organizational partnerships between business, not-for-profit and governmental organizations and determine the critical elements needed for success. Key issues facing contemporary organizations are identified and strategies for managing these challenges are presented. Students will assess their own individual and group behavioral tendencies and determine how organizational structure, culture and work design influence performance.
