Principles of Environmental Scanning - 4 credits
Environmental scanning is the process of identifying and evaluating external factors that may affect an organization on either a micro or a macro level. The micro level includes the immediate and global competitive environment and the macro level encompasses external trends dealing with the economy, politics, social changes or technology. This course provides students the opportunity to develop a process for environmental scanning and learn to use tools to evaluate trends and the significance of a trend. Causal loop diagrams, systems archetypes and scenario planning will be discussed.
