Deborah Howard

Deborah received her BFA in drawing & printmaking at the Rhode Island School of Design and her MFA in painting & printmaking from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. She has taught at Louisiana State University, University of Minnesota and currently heads the painting program at the University of Denver. Her work has been exhibited at the Aspen Art Museum, Regis University in Denver, Arvada Arts Center, Peace Museum in Chicago, Tweed Museum in Duluth Minnesota, Contemporary Art Center in New Orleans and City College in New York. She is currently working on a series of encaustic paintings titled “Qumran” that have references to the Dead Sea Scrolls. The colors and textures are inspired by the landscape & culture of New Mexico and Israel which hold many connections for the artist. Deborah has an upcoming solo-exhibition of her encaustic paintings at SACI (Studio Arts Center International) in Florence Italy October 2007. Her Portrait Project of Holocaust Survivors will be on display April 2008 at the Mizel Center for Arts and Culture in Denver.
