Graduate Research and Writing - 4 credits
Critical thinking, accomplished through solid research and clear writing, is paramount to success in one’s academic and professional pursuits. This course places emphasis on research and writing strategies in proposing and completing an evidence-based academic paper. It covers how to draft and revise thesis statements, write literature reviews, cite sources in text, choose an appropriate research approach, and construct a reference list in compliance with The Chicago Manual of Style. It emphasizes use of the library in both traditional and electronic methods of finding and making use of evidence. The course also stresses editing and revision for mechanics, style, and language. It is designed to improve writing skills for use in an academic and professional setting. The background and foundations for writing the Capstone proposal are provided in this course.
