Information systems security is an imperative for business, government, and consumers. Breaches in information security can range from merely disruptive to catastrophic. Thus, organizations today have growing needs for information systems security managers and professionals who know how to protect information systems, applications, and networks from attack and failure.

To help organizations get the educated and trained professionals they need, University College developed its Master of Applied Science degree and professional certificate program in Information Systems Security. The curriculum integrates technology and business management coursework, enabling graduates to analyze security needs, provide effective solutions, and fill a critical niche in business and government.

Practical issues like setting up a secure network, securing servers, and handling incidents are presented by certified faculty who work in the fields they teach. Furthermore, our labs give hands-on experience with industry-current security tools, better preparing you for real-world security challenges.

To ensure up-to-minute knowledge and skills, the curriculum was designed around the Common Body of Knowledge for CISSP certification developed by the International Information Systems Security Certifications Consortium (ISC)2. In addition, the program was developed in collaboration with the Colorado Springs and Denver chapters of the Information Security Systems Association (ISSA), and the courses have been mapped to the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS) standards.

As a result, students learn to:

• Implement access controls
• Establish secure operations
• Control physical security
• Use encryption
• Secure networks
• Plan for business continuity
• Investigate incidents and handle legal issues • Determine Return on Security Investment (ROSI)

Upon completion, students are prepared to take (ISC)2, CISSP, and GIAC certification exams. With this background, graduates are prepared for careers in: Security Management, System Administration, Security Analysis
