The master’s degree specialty and graduate certificate in Software Design and Programming can be earned entirely online or evenings on campus.
As the world continues to move toward increasingly sophisticated applications, significant demand exists for technically proficient professionals who can produce working, maintainable code that delights users. Our Software Design and Programming area of study can help you build the skills necessary to develop quality software programs and applications.Students, whether working in the field or changing careers, develop a breadth of knowledge related to software engineering,
project management, databases, client-server computing, and enterprise architecture.
In addition, they will develop specific depth of knowledge in the following:
• Object-Oriented Methods
• OO Languages: C#, Java
• Unified Software Development Process
• Software Quality Assurance
Practical aspects of issues like classifications, implementation strategies, and cost-effective project management are presented by experienced faculty who work in the field they teach. Students apply their skills in labs that are mini design sessions, during which the instructor helps the students identify and overcome challenges.
Graduates are prepared for careers such as:
Software Engineer
Programmer/Analyst
QC Analyst
Software Architect
Program Requirements
Total 48 credit hours
Students are required to take MALS 4020 within their first three quarters at University College
Core - 8 qtr. hrs
Professional Foundation Courses - 12 qtr. hrs
Speciality Courses - 16 qtr. hrs
Further Study - 12 qtr. hrs
Admissions Requirements
Candidates for Master's degree programs are evaluated based on the following criteria:
Entrance examinations such as the GRE or GMAT are NOT required.
An earned a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education is required.
Applicants must have earned a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) in their undergraduate work. Applicants with lower GPAs may be accepted on a provisional basis.
The applicant's professional commitment and written language skills are evaluated through the essay, and the confidential recommendations, both submitted as part of the admissions packet.
