masters Environmental and Management

The responsible management of environmental issues – climate change, energy, sustainability, etc. – represents one of the biggest challenges facing government, industry, and the general public. To prepare you for managing these challenges, the master’s program in environmental policy and management (EPM) at the University College offers an innovative curriculum, which allows students to customize their degrees to the specific needs of their career, and both online and on-campus options.

Unlike other programs, we blend the fundamentals of environmental science and technology with an emphasis on:

  • the development of sound policies
  • practical applications of knowledge
  • an ethical management philosophy

Whether pursuing a master’s degree online or on campus, or a certificate of advanced study, students discover how to work effectively with and within diverse organizations, businesses and communities in addressing problems and forging solutions. In addition, students have the advantage of working with instructors who practice in the environmental policy and management field. Many of our instructors head agencies and consulting firms charged with putting knowledge, current practices and the latest technology to work.

This program is designed specifically for working adults, and its hands-on emphasis in project-oriented courses prepares you for inspection, permitting and compliance positions in various industries. EPM courses are also beneficial to students pursuing information management, project management, enforcement and regulation positions with government agencies. Students interested in policy development and advocacy positions with nongovernmental and nonprofit organizations will also appreciate the program’s emphasis on translating knowledge into effective policy.

Online Learning

Our master’s degree and certificate in Environmental Policy & Management can be earned entirely through online study. All courses are available in an online format. Students can also take all courses on the University of Denver campus, or take a combination of online and on-campus classes.
