Graduate International Admission
Students are considered “international” if they received their baccalaureate degree from an institution outside of the United States—international student status is not based upon country of citizenship. International candidates must comply with all requirements set forth for domestic applicants, but must also supplement their application with additional requirements.
See international student checklist.
If it is your intention to apply for a student visa, further requirements are required in order for the University to issue you an I-20 (the government document that allows a student visa to be granted).
- 1. Supplemental Information Form
- 2. A financial verification form. This typically takes the form of an official bank letter, and is used to verify that the student has enough financial resources available to cover the cost of attendance. For the 2007-08 academic year, financial verification forms must reference a specific amount in excess of US$26,664. The letter should be original (not a fax or photocopy), and have the signature of an officer of the financial institution.
- 3. A photocopy of your current passport.
These additional requirements include:
1. Official TOEFL Score Report
Students who do not possess a bachelor or master’s degree from a regionally accredited US institution must provide an official TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of at least 550 on the paper-based version, 213 on the computer-based version, or 80 on the Internet-based version. The TOEFL score may be waived if the student possesses a bachelor’s or master’s degree where the medium or language of instruction and testing for the entire college/university was English. The official college/university transcripts, mark sheets or degree certificate must clearly state that the medium of instruction or the entire language of instruction of the college/university is English.
Graduates of certain English-only institutions (e.g. universities in the United Kingdom and Australia) do not need to provide documentation that the medium or language of instruction and testing for the entire college/university was English. Please contact us if you have any questions concerning the documentation required to waive the TOEFL.
2. Official Transcripts And Appropriate Official Third-Party Translations
International applicants should submit official transcripts printed in the official language of instruction of their institution.
If the official language of instruction is not English, official translated copies should also be submitted by a qualified educational translation service.
3. Photocopy of Diploma/Degree Certificate And Appropriate Translations
Please submit a copy of your diploma or degree certificate, along with all appropriate official translations.
